First Course

This First Course is designed as an introduction for pupils who will be sitting their Buckinghamshire or Berkshire eleven plus in September 2018


The ten-week familiarisation course is vibrant and exciting.  My aim is to teach a range of skills and gradually assess pupils' ability in specific 11+ areas of:


     1.     English

     2.     Verbal Reasoning

     3.     Mathematics

     4.     Non-verbal Reasoning

     5.     Spatial Awareness


Whilst doing this I will focus on the GL Assessment type questions that will be in the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire 11+ tests from 2018 onwards.  Finally, during session ten of the course, a Mock Paper will be given with feedback to parents on pupils' strengths as well as areas to develop. Together we can decide if the 11+ examination is the right route for your son or daughter at this stage of their educational development.  


During the Extension course - beginning January 2018 – I hone in on the 'boost' areas that have been identified for individual pupils.

Non-verbal Reasoning (NVR) -  including Spatial Awareness

•  Creating a personal mind map as a memory jogger of things to look for in NVR. For example:

   rotation – shape – size – borders – shading - mirror image  -  pattern -  number  - angle -  position


•  Introduction to some types of NVR questions such as:

   Matrices  -  Sequences  -  Similarities  -  Odd one out  -  Series  -  Analogies


•  3D Shapes – hidden shapes –  combining shapes  -  transforming 2D shape to 3D (nets)
